Ezekiel Elliott Finds New Home in New England
Cowboys Star Signs One-Year Deal with Patriots
Former Cowboys Star Ezekiel Elliott has agreed to a one-year deal with the New England Patriots, according to multiple reports.
The move comes after Elliott was released by the Cowboys in March after six seasons with the team. Elliott played a key role in the Cowboys' success over the years, earning three Pro Bowl selections and rushing for over 1,000 yards in each of his first six seasons with the team
Elliott's production declined in recent years, however, and he was released by the Cowboys in a cost-cutting move. The Patriots are hoping that Elliott can regain his old form and provide a boost to their offense in 2023.
Elliott is expected to compete for the starting running back job in New England with second-year player Rhamondre Stevenson. Elliott has more experience than Stevenson and is considered a more complete back, but Stevenson had a strong rookie season and is expected to push Elliott for playing time.
The addition of Elliott gives the Patriots a veteran presence in the backfield and should help take some of the pressure off quarterback Mac Jones. Elliott is a good receiver out of the backfield and should be a valuable asset to the Patriots' offense.
The Patriots are hoping that Elliott can help them return to the playoffs in 2023. The team missed the playoffs last season after finishing 8-9, but they have made some key additions this offseason, including Elliott, and are hoping to compete for the AFC East title
