Early Career
Jerry West signed a two-year contract with the Lakers in 1960. He quickly became a key player for the team, helping them win their first NBA championship in 1972.
Coaching Career
West retired as a player in 1974 but returned to coach the Lakers in 1976. He led the team to nine NBA championships, including five consecutive titles from 1980 to 1985.
Legacy
West is considered one of the greatest players and coaches in NBA history. He is a member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and his jersey number has been retired by the Lakers.
