Cable Snapped In 2009 Injuring 12 Year Old

Knott's Berry Farm Settles with Boy Injured on Roller Coaster

Cable Snapped in 2009, Injuring 12-Year-Old

Confidential Settlement Reached

Knott's Berry Farm has reached a confidential settlement with a 12-year-old boy who was injured on its Xcelerator roller coaster in 2009 when a launch cable snapped.

The boy, identified as Kyle Wheeler, was sitting in the front row of the coaster when the accident occurred. The cable whipped towards the riders, splitting Wheeler's leg and causing severe muscle damage.

Over the ensuing months, Wheeler underwent multiple surgeries to repair the damage to his leg and graft skin over his injuries. He also underwent extensive physical therapy.

The Los Angeles Times reports that Wheeler's injuries were so severe that he had to learn to walk again.

The terms of the settlement are confidential, but it is believed to be a substantial amount.

Knott's Berry Farm has not admitted liability in the accident, but the settlement is a sign that the company is taking responsibility for Wheeler's injuries.
